The CRW Board is delighted to announce the 2023 Volunteer Award recipients. This year, the Board selected four members to receive recognition for their service to the Charles River Wheelers.

The Ralph Galen Service Award was presented to Mary Kernan and John O’Dowd, for their tireless and sustained support of CRW.  Mary served on the Board and was the VP of Rides for many years.  John was also a member of the Board including a stint as the Secretary, and is our current VP of Rides.  They have both served on committees and volunteered countless hours to CRW..

Sylvia Stoddart was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award for her extraordinary dedication to leading and growing the weekly Gravel and Women’s Program rides throughout the entire ride season.

The Board also awarded Harriet Fell a special lifetime membership award for her decades of leadership and service to the club.  Harriet was not only one of one of the first Americans to complete the iconic 1200 km Paris-Brest-Paris bicycle ride, she also served as a Board member until she moved to the West Coast.

This past Sunday, November 5th, the CRW Board of Directors unanimously elected Randolph Williams as the President and Chair of the Board.  Randolph's two year term begins on January 1, 2024.

The Board is grateful that Randolph has stepped forward to take on this responsibility and we are confident that he will be a successful leader.  The photo below shows Randolph in the middle looking a little worried, Larry Kernan (our former President and outgoing Board member on the right) looking relaxed, and me, Ed Cheng (the outgoing President).

Join me in welcoming Randolph as our new President!

The Bike Thursday Ride Season ended on October 26th with a spectacular ride and party.  Fifty (50) people rode on Thursday morning following 2 routes through Waltham, Lincoln, Weston, Concord and Lexington.  Four (4)  leaders lead a group of about 12-15 riders each.  The temperature was in the high 70's, with blue skies and wonderful foliage.

What more could you ask for, but a lunch party on the lawn.

    Dear CRW Members,

Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback on the code of conduct.

We received over 200 thoughtful responses, which gave us invaluable perspective. Your comments have been carefully reviewed and incorporated into revisions to the code.

The updated code of conduct reflects the input from members in a more streamlined and straightforward way.

While a formal code aims to promote shared values, it does not replace good judgment and rapport within our community. We trust that members will continue to look out for one another and take personal responsibility. The new code of conduct will be incorporated into the club membership/renewal process, posted on our website, and linked in our ride postings.

Thank you for contributing to conversations that strengthen us. We look forward to many great future rides and events.

    Sincerely,

    CRW Board
