On July 9, Louisa Gag, a 36-year-old Boston transportation planner, was killed by a truck while riding her bicycle on Tremont Street near Roxbury Crossing.

I did not know Louisa, and when I first heard about her death, I wasn’t aware of the work she had done. I subsequently learned that she had devoted much of her professional life to making Boston a better and safer place to get around. Before joining the Boston Transportation Department, where she worked on Bluebikes and other transportation programs, she worked for LivableStreets Alliance, a nonprofit devoted to safer streets and more livable communities.

Her obituary says that she loved raspberries and ice cream, leopard print and thrifting, sewing and Cribbage. She also loved camping and going swimming in Crystal Lake.

Louisa’s family has asked that those wishing to honor her memory make donations to LivableStreets Alliance. The CRW Board has therefore voted to contribute $500 to the organization in her memory. That represents one-sixth of the club’s annual budget for charitable giving. We wanted CRW members to know that we have made this gift to honor Louisa and to support the important work she did for our community.
