Ride Overview:

Ready for an adventure? Join us as we ride from Encore Boston up to Newburyport, taking in a fun mix of bike paths, city streets, quiet country roads, and dirt rail trails.

The profile is mostly flat, but expect a bit of the unexpected! Unpaved trail conditions can change quickly and might feature mud, standing water, soft sand, washouts, or local detours.

Please note that the ride starts at Encore Boston but ends at North Station. Also, depending on the time we get back to the MBTA station in Newburyport, we may need to wait for the train.

Equipment Note: Gravel bikes are strongly suggested. This route is not appropriate for road or commuter bikes, though endurance and all-road bikes are fine with 32mm + tires.

The Route: The ride begins at the Encore Boston Harbor Ferry Landing, we take The Strand Bike Path through Lynn Shore Drive to the Marblehead Rail Trail to the Salvo Bike Path in Salem, Crowly Trail, Danvers Rail Trail, Topsfield Linear Common, Boxford Rail Trail. Georgetown-Byfield Rail Trail, Burns Wildlife Management Area Trail into Newburyport with an optional extension to Plum Island on Refuge Road. Then head back to downtown Newburyport where we can grab some grub, and ride to the MBTA station.

Navigation & Safety Proper navigation tools are required: Please bring a GPS device or a phone app. Do not rely on others for navigation, as riders will be traveling at different speeds. Front and rear lights required, be prepared to fix your own mechanicals. Bring enough water and snacks, a bike lock is suggested if we stop to eat in Newburyport.

Weather Policy Heavy Rain cancels. The ride leader will make the final call by 7pm the night before the ride.
