HEAT ADVISORY: July 4th Club Ride (Topsfield, MA)
Please be aware that we are facing extreme heat for our Independence Day ride in Topsfield, MA. The forecast for Saturday, July 4, 2026, calls for a high of 94°F with a humidity level of 57%, making conditions highly demanding for extended outdoor efforts.
To ensure everyone stays safe out there, please follow these critical adjustments for the ride:
-
Hydration: Standard water bottles will likely not be enough. We strongly recommend using water backpacks (like a CamelBak) to carry extra fluids.
-
Pacing: This is a day to keep the ego in check. We will be capping our speed and moving at a slower, more conservative pace than usual to prevent heat exhaustion.
-
Route Choice: If you are on the fence, we highly encourage you to choose the shorter of the two routes available to minimize your total exposure during the hottest part of the day.
Let's look out for one another, watch for signs of heat stress, and have a safe holiday ride!

Ride Overview: North Shore Cyclists (NSC) have graciously accepted our request to include their annual 4th of July FireCracker Gravel Ride on the CRW calendar. So lets begin our Fourth of July celebration early with either a 51 or 39 mile mix terrain ride though some of the beautiful choice trails, paths and railways the North Shore is known for.
Equipment Note: Gravel bikes are strongly suggested. This route is not appropriate for road or commuter bikes, though endurance and all-road bikes are fine with 32mm + tires.
The Route: The route begins in Topsfield along the Topsfield Linear Common, then passes through the Boxford Rail Trail, the Georgetown-Rowley State Forest, Willowdale, Bradley Palmer State Park, Appleton Farms, Gordon College Woods, and Beverly Commons, before heading back to Topsfield on the Bay Circuit Trail.
Navigation & Safety Proper navigation tools are required: Please bring a GPS device or a phone app. Do not rely on others for navigation, as riders will be traveling at different speeds. Please have bikes ready to roll at 9:15 am before the pre-ride safety talk.
Weather Policy Heavy Rain cancels. The ride leader will make the final call by 7pm the night before the ride.
