CRW Rides are open to members and guests. Guests may attend two rides annually before being required to join the club. Please click the Register button to the left to join the ride. Helmets are required on all CRW rides. Riders are expected to adhere to CRW Code of Conduct, and to be familiar with CRW’s Rider GuidelinesGroup Riding Guidelines, and Pedestrian Awareness Guidelines. (20250430)

Ride Description:

Major Taylor Century & George Street Challenge

A spirited, history-rich 106-mile out-and-back from Winchester to Worcester.

Timing is tight—riders MUST be able to hold a steady 15–17 mph moving speed and have a GPS device with the route loaded. If you are not comfortable at that pace, please choose another CRW ride; we will not slow the group or provide cue sheets.

8:15–8:25 AM 29 Rest stop at Seasons Corner Market / Shell, 123 Union St, Ashland — water, restrooms, snacks
9:30–9:45 AM 50 Arrive George Street, Worcester; photo at Major Taylor statue
9:45–10:30 AM Watch or enter the George Street Hill-Climb, which requires separate $20 registration. If you register, tell the ride leader so the group can cheer you on.
10:30–10:45 AM Roll-out for return
12:05 PM 72 Mid-return rest stop at Mobil Gas & Mart, 623 Main St, Bolton / MA-117 — water, restrooms, snacks
~2:15 PM 105 Finish back at Winchester; optional refreshments nearby

MBTA bail-out option: Worcester Line trains accept bikes on weekends—handy if fatigue or mechanical issues strike. Carry fare and check the schedule before riding.

Ride Start Location:

Shannon Beach, Mystic River Path, Winchester, MA

  • Free DCR upper-lot parking; gates open at 6:00 AM
  • Seasonal restrooms and water fountains beside the beach house
  • Google Maps pin: “Shannon Beach Winchester, MA”

Mandatory Equipment & Pace:

  • GPS computer or smartphone with the Ride with GPS route loaded; no paper cues
  • Ability to maintain a 15–17 mph average over 100 miles
  • Basic on-the-road repair kit and two full bottles

Riders unable to keep the advertised pace will be on their own for navigation and return.
