Ride Description:
This is a gravel-focused weekday ride. Due to logistics and the presence of pedestrians on some of the trails, this ride is limited to six participants, with the intent to stay together as a group. (If there is sufficient interest and/or a wait list, the ride will be repeated again the following month.)
The route consists of three "legs" emanating from Concord center: 1) Out and back on the Battle Road Trail in Minuteman National Park in Lincoln (this not the Minuteman Bikeway); 2) Out and back on the Reformatory Branch Trail and the Narrow Gauge Rail Trail in Bedford; 3) A loop through Estabrook Woods in Concord.
Total distance is approximately 30 miles, about three-quarters of which is on unpaved surfaces (gravel or dirt trails). The route is suitable for beginner and intermediate gravel riders, with the only challenging section in Estabrook Woods. Due to the surfaces, expect the pace to be slower than a typical CRW road ride. Minimum recommended tire width is 32mm (ride is not suitable for skinny road bike tires).
There is no planned lunch stop, but food options are available in Concord after the ride.
In the event of rain or wet surface, this ride will be cancelled or postponed.
Ride Start Location:
Public parking lot (free!) on Keyes Rd., Concord, just off Main Street. Please park in the west side of the lot (on the left if you're coming from Main St.) Public restrooms are in the starting lot (as well as at miles 11 and 24 in the Great Meadows Wildlife Refuge).
