Ride Description: We have no affiliation with the manufacturer of hydration packs but, on the 4th of July, we are riding from CAmbridge to MArblehead and Lynn, BACK on the FERRY. The Lechmere MBTA extension and its accompanying bike path have been completed. As has the final connection of the Northern Strand bike path to the paths around the Everett Casino. That means it's possible to bike from Cambridge to Marblehead on bike paths and bike friendly roads. Our usual bike routes in Concord and Lexington have a lot of history related to the 4th of July but Marblehead is unique in its preservation and active use of infrastructure dating from colonial times. And, they put on a good show for the 4th with a street fair, open historical houses, band concerts, and lots of outdoor dining. Plus, the Lynn ferry runs a weekend schedule with rides back to downtown Boston at 3:00, 5:00, and 6:45 (fare = $7.00). The plan is to start from Cambridge at 10:00, pick up the bike path to its end in Lynn, bike up the shore road to Marblehead, take in the festivities, head back to Lynn, and take the next available ferry back to Boston. Then we resume on the bike path back to Cambridge. A long day but a very flat route.
Please load both the regular and the backup routes on your phone or GPS. If you get to the ferry terminal just after the boat leaves, it's a long wait for the next one. In that case it may be quicker to just bike back to the start.
Ride Start Location:

Ride Leader(s): Gene Ho, ho.eugene@verizon.net, 617-610-1875
Pace: I'll split the participants into fast and slow groups and start them in that order. Typically, I'll sweep the course to deal with any mechanical problems and to insure that no one rides alone. If abilities, compatabilities, and preferences allow, we may ride more cohesively. I'll discuss re-grouping points at the start.

Backup Route - Ya never know about the MBTA which runs the ferry. The ferry could fill up (150 capacity), break down, sink or, maybe, you might just want to bike back. Here's the round trip bike only route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47379631
