A great way to meet other women CRW members!

This is a low-traffic, scenic ride through Lexington, Burlington, Woburn, Winchester, and Arlington! The ride leaves from the Minuteman Bikeway terminus near Alewife (at the intersection of three bike paths: Fitchburg Cutoff, Alewife Linear, and Minuteman). We head down the Minuteman bikeway to Lexington Center, then to Burlington and up Blanchard Rd to the water tower at Mary Cummings Park. We descend to beautiful Horn Pond, spin past Mystic Lakes, and take our "secret" route back to Alewife (that cuts out the traffic in Arlington Center). Expect a pace of about 13-15 mph, with stops to regroup as needed (faster riders can form groups to make their own time).
Rain cancels. Will make call by 10 pm the night before. Will check again at 6 am in case of unexpected weather.

This ride is now scheduled for 10/22 (due to expected bad weather on Sun 10/23)

Enjoy this delightful ride with a friendly group. We span Newton, Wellesley, Needham and Dover. There's a regular (25 miles), medium (33 miles) and long (47 miles). Back by popular demand: we'll have a pre-ride social gathering for anyone who wants to join at Dunkin Donuts, 1148 Beacon St., Newton (it has bathrooms, fyi). This Dunkin is next door to the ride start, a 1 minute walk; have a free coffee and donut on CRW's tab, up to $5 per person; tell them to "put it on Lisa's card" (those are the magic words). Parking for the actual ride is behind the condo building at 1172 Beacon St., Newton. There is free parking but please park in the back only. The ride is show-and-go, everyone at their own pace. You can use GPS or print a cue sheet ahead (no printed copies at the ride start).

Notes:

Lisa's cell # 617-299-1620 (text preferred, but for anything urgent or time sensitive, be sure to call as I've set up my texts to not have audible notification).

For possible weather-related cancelation, check this website 8a or after on the day of the ride. The ride is on unless it is listed as canceled by 830a that day.

For Ride with GPS: (1) install the Ride with GPS app on your mobile phone (it can be a free account); (2) open Google on your phone, navigate to crw.org, and locate this ride in the ride calendar; (3) click the map below and download it; (4) open the download within Ride with GPS. (5) become familiar with Ride with GPS prior to the ride.

Badass witch cyclist :-)

Thanks to the North Shore Cyclists for sharing these routes for the CRW classic Hallowe'en ride. All riders are invited to enjoy the distance and pace that suits them best. Creative seasonal additions to your bike kit are encouraged.

Flat to rolling loops through the North Shore. All rides pass through Boxford, Topsfield and Rowley. Medium ride adds Newbury and Newburyport. Long ride adds Plum Island including the paved bike lane on the Plum Island Causeway. Short ride lunch stop is in Topsfield. Long and medium ride lunch stop is in Newburyport at Abraham's Bagels. Abraham's is in the same block where a 17th century woman named Elizabeth Morse lived. She was convicted of witchcraft a dozen years before the Salem witch trials. Visit the plaque dedicated to her on the north side of the building. An optional stop is at Tendercrop Farm on the long and medium rides. Feel free to visit the farm store for coffee and fresh local products!

A variation on the Praline Croissant ride, but faster and longer. With less bike path, no Horn Pond dog dodging, and an additional loop around Mystic Lakes, this ride is for women looking for a quicker pace (15+ mph) and paceline work. The ride is show-and-go and will not necessarily regroup if riders are dropped.
