FREE Coffee Shop stop in Dedham edition!!!

Moving the start time back a half-hour this week so that the coffee shops are open when we arrive in downtown Dedham.  We'll take a quick stop at Big Bear Cafe (https://www.bigbearinthesquare.com) and anticipate returning to the start before 8:30am.  We'll revert to our typical 6am departure time next week.

Come out early to enjoy the scenic side of Boston. We'll meet in the Brookline town parking lot next to Leverett Pond (just off of Pond Ave), where free 2 hour parking is available.

From Leverett Pond, we'll head south along the Emerald Necklace. After passing Jamaica Pond we'll have a short climb before making our way south to a fun descent along the verdant parkways of the Stony Brook Reservation. We'll then roll through the quaint Dedham town center before turning north towards Needham. Our route home meanders through stately homes in Newton and Brookline before descending back towards Jamaica Pond and the Emerald Necklace.

Expect a moderate pace of 14 – 16mph depending on participants and how we feel that day.

*** Bring proper navigation tools: GPS device, phone app, or cue sheet. Do not rely on others to help you with navigation. They may ride at a different speed than you. ***

Notes:

Rain or excessively wet roads, expect the ride to be canceled. Ride leader will update for cancelation the evening prior.

There are a few traffic rotaries on this route (this is Boston after all) which are fairly simple to negotiate early in the morning, however extra vigilance is always advised.

Epic Experience bicycling to Cape Cod in a day: ferry, bicycle path, farmers' market, salt water taffy, ice cream, bakery, lighthouses, & many beaches to dip in.

You must purchase return ferry ticket in advance of staring the ride. Capacity is low. Ferry will sell out.

Start at 4:30 AM from Seaport World Trade Center 2 Seaport Ln, Boston, MA 02210 Navigate out of town with stops at Scituate, Whitehorse beaches, Plymouth Rock and some photo opts. Then across the bridge onto Cape Cod to connect with the CRW group in Hyannis by 10:30 am then out to Cape Cod bicycle path to enjoy several parks, beaches, & food stops along the way. Visit the small towns of Orleans, Wellfleet, & Truro before arriving Provincetown for snack or early dinner.

Plan on 14–16mph pace, plenty of stops, & leisurely day.

For a distance of 163 miles & elevation gain of 5500ft, you could arrive Provincetown just in time for the ferry at 8:30PM ($73). This is also a tour, not a race. We will likely take our time to arrive into town, dine & stroll around before sailing on 20:30 ferry, arriving Boston at 22:00.

Calling all Ride Leaders! Are you missing your Ride Leader friends? Bummed because we never had a real kickoff in the spring? Know you won't get a chance to do one of the other great rides posted today? Interested in free food and beverages? Ready to post something on the club calendar? Here's your chance to check all those boxes in a very short time.

We're inviting Ride Leaders only (and anyone who attended Ride Leader training) to join us for a quick afternoon ride and cocktail party! Or, you can just come for the cocktails. And yes, please feel free to bring a guest! Our ride starts at 3:00 p.m. and is a scant 16.7 miles - just enough to convince yourself you got some exercise. Appetizers and beverages will be served from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. Sorry, Larry won't be slinging burgers for this one.

But wait, there's more!

Anyone who posts a ride to the calendar between July 9 - 23 will be entered into a raffle to win a $100 gift card to Jack's Abby. Post two rides, you get two chances to win! Post three rides, well, you can figure it out. Yes, there's fine print:

  • This drawing is for weekend rides only. Yes, Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sorry, Adventure, Devo and Gravel rides are not eligible for the drawing. Not sure your ride qualifies, please ask Ed Cheng.
  • The ride must occur by October 31st.

Oh yeah, the ride description! It's a quick loop that starts with an awesome uphill then loops through Lexington and Concord before returning to Bedford. Nearly all the turns are to the right and you should be able to do this in a little over an hour. Be sure to save a little energy for the climb back to the ride start.

Please register today! If you'd like to come just for cocktails, please put 0 miles at the bottom of the form in the Distance box. We need to get a headcount so we can feed everyone! (Rain cancels. A rain cancellation will be posted Sunday morning).
