Ride Start: Massabesic Lake Parking Lot (Rockingham Rail Trail), Manchester, NH
Description: This ride begins on the unpaved Rockingham Rail Trail, but soon leaves it to explore the many fire roads nearby. At about 7 miles, the ride makes a loop on the fire roads around the beautiful Tower Hill Pond, followed by a climb up the very tough Tower Hill dirt road. After a short time on paved roads, the route rejoins the Rockingham Rail Trail for 5 miles, with the rest of the ride being a mix of paved roads, jeep tracks and fire roads. Only 20% of the ride is on paved roads, so while a gravel bike is most suitable, a mountain bike would also be fine. It is not a technical ride, but expect some rocks and roots on the fire roads, and some steep hills.
This will be a no drop ride, but riders who wish to ride faster than the group may jump off the front, but are, of course, on their own.
The ride is 34 miles long, but a short 22 mile option is available- at mile 18, instead of going further east on the Rockingham Rail Trail, proceed west on the RRT back to the parking lot. We will ride together to this point, at which point you may make a decision on the distance you wish to do. There is no special Ride with GPS route for the short ride since it is very simple.
Also! Join us post ride for one free beer at the Auburn Tavern compliments of the CRW Gravel Program! We will head there after the conclusion of the long ride.
Steady rain cancels.
