Plenty of options to take pictures, admire scenery, & smell flowers. On another ride. This is about one goal only: arrive Portland before train departs at 17:58.

Challenge last two years was plenty of fun: enough for adrenaline rush, & comfortable to enjoy ice cream, lighthouses, & beer before arriving the train station on schedule. Refer to full trip report.

This year, the challenge is bigger & better: bicycle 215km in 12 hours, or overall average of 19km/h, leaving some contingency time. There are several long stretches of hard packed stone dust & dirt rail trails, close to 50km in total.

Follow the East Coast Greenway along the coast with most beautiful views to Portsmouth for snack stop. Continue along the coast on Adventure Cycling Association Atlantic Coast route for late lunch in Wells. We are three quarters of the way.

The remaining stretch is mostly on trails—hard packed gravel trails. There are no services here all the way to Portland for plenty of choices for dinner & beer ahead of boarding the train.

We meet in Oak Grove orange line T station at 6:00 ready to leave. Food & rest stops every 50km or so for very quick snacks, liquid calories, & chocolate.

We return on Amtrak train at 17:58 arriving in Boston at 20:30. You must purchase your Amtrak train & bicycle tickets in advance of starting on the ride.

Many options for ice cream & Cumberland Farms stores along the way. These will be very quick stops, mostly for liquid & snacks: orange juice, protein shake, V8, chocolate milk, & energy bars.

Bail out points include bus, taxi, Uber, Lyft, hotels, & motels.

Bring small handlebar bag to carry extra clothes, gear, snacks, USB battery, lights, & hydration tablets.

This will be self-guided tour. Bring GPS device, phone with navigation apps, or cue sheets for the routes you plan to ride. We will not provide them.
