The Charles River Wheelers continues to offer its historic Wednesday Ice Cream ride starting at 6 p.m. in Weston at the Weston United Methodist Church with parking in the rear of the church.  The ice cream establishment, Dairy Joy on Route 117 is .3 miles or a 5 minute walk from the church.  The church, through its love for the community and gracious hospitality, is offering its restrooms from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the evenings of this ride.  The ride is NOT arrowed, but cue sheets for each route will be available at the ride.  There are GPS files for each route available on this announcement.  If you are new to cycling, then this is a great ride to test your navigation skills with a GPS navigation file or using a cue sheet.  While there are no guarantees, there may be a friendly ride leader to guide you on the appropriate route.

Notes:

NOTE: It has been reported that paving will begin on Oxbow Road during the week of June 20th, a road used on the 24 mile route.  Thus, an alternative file is posted here eliminating Oxbow Road making the ride 23 miles.  When the paving of Oxbow Road is complete we will resume using it and reinstate the 24 mile route.

A group that enjoys exploring a variety of scenic routes, mostly in the western suburbs but also to the north or south. Occasionally we do an urban exploration. We always include a lunch stop, either during or at the end of the ride. In the winter we may substitute other activities, such as cross-country skiing. We stay together, following the leader for the day, while being careful not to drop anyone. On a rural ride of average hilliness, the pace is 15 to 17 mph on the flats, but slows considerably on the hills, so we wind up with a rolling average of about 13 mph. In fairness to the group, we require that prospective riders be capable of maintaining this pace. Distances are typically between 30 and 40 miles.

Non-members of CRW are welcome to ride with us and experience what the Wednesday Wheelers offer. If you like our rides however, and wish to continue to ride with us, we expect you to become a CRW member.
